Scrappbook vs. Picdrop: Which online gallery suits you? (2026)
scrappbook and picdrop are among the best-known German online galleries, but they solve different tasks. picdrop is built for image proofing and fast delivery, scrappbook for selling after the shoot. The short version: if you need approval and proofing processes for B2B clients, choose picdrop. If you mainly photograph private clients, choose scrappbook.
Upfront: we are PictoMento and offer online galleries ourselves. In this comparison, we're not a party, but we're not neutral either. That's why we rely on the information from both providers and only show at the end when PictoMento is a third option.
The short answer
Two providers, two approaches
picdrop: built for proofing and speed
picdrop from Berlin says it serves around 200,000 users. The interface is deliberately simple. Clients like, vote, add colour labels, comment and draw directly on the image. You then filter the selection in Lightroom or Capture One. With Live Push, photos go straight from the camera into the gallery. From Advanced, several team members work in one account.
scrappbook: built for selling afterwards
According to the company, more than 60,000 photographers use scrappbook from Düsseldorf. Here, the gallery as a sales space is the focus: print shop, digital shop, vouchers, marketing automation and an AI-powered photo album editor. On top of that come more than ten gallery templates, a gallery app without an app store, a Lightroom plugin and face recognition as a filter.
Put simply: picdrop stops when the photos are approved. That's when scrappbook really gets going.
Pricing compared
The most important difference lies in the model: picdrop limits storage, scrappbook limits the number of galleries on the entry plan. What that means for a year:
Up to 15 galleries a year, the two are almost level. From 16 galleries, picdrop is clearly cheaper as long as 500 GB is enough. Because picdrop doesn't delete anything by itself, though, storage fills up over the years: Pro can be expanded to a maximum of 750 GB, after which you need Advanced for €479.88 a year. This is where scrappbook's unlimited photo storage pays off.

Features compared directly
When picdrop is the better choice
You work with selection rounds. Clients mark, comment and draw on the image before you retouch. That's what picdrop is made for.
You shoot commercially. Food, product, editorial, campaigns: what counts here is approvals and speed, not selling prints.
You work in a team. At picdrop, assistants, retouchers or agencies get their own access and permissions.
You deliver many galleries and clean up regularly. From 16 galleries a year, picdrop Pro is considerably cheaper than scrappbook Professional, as long as 500 GB is enough.
When scrappbook is the better choice
You earn after the shoot. Prints, files, photo albums: scrappbook takes care of orders and fulfilment. picdrop has no shop.
You actively upsell. Vouchers and automated reminders bring clients back to the gallery.
Your clients should find themselves. With face recognition, they filter the gallery by person. picdrop doesn't offer that.
You keep a lot of material online. scrappbook stores photos without a limit from Starter, so you don't have to clean up.
And if neither fits?
At weddings and events, both hit a limit: many people open the same gallery, but not everyone should see everything. That's what we built PictoMento for. Imagine a wedding with 90 guests and 700 photos:
With picdrop, the couple gets a plain, fast link, with a password if desired. If they forward it, every guest scrolls through all 700 photos.
With scrappbook, everyone opens a beautifully designed gallery and uses face recognition to filter for themselves. Everyone sees the same 700 photos; anything not meant for guests, you hide beforehand.
With PictoMento, every guest gets their own link and lands directly in their “For you” chapter. They only see what is meant for them, in your design, without anyone else's logo.
On top of that, you pay €10 per gallery at PictoMento instead of a subscription, or €199 a year for unlimited galleries. Galleries are available in German, Dutch and English, and moving from scrappbook or picdrop is free.
Fair is fair: PictoMento is not a proofing tool and has no team access, no password protection and no digital sales. If that's decisive for you, stay with picdrop or scrappbook. More in our scrappbook alternative and picdrop alternative; you'll find an overview of eight providers in the comparison of online galleries.
Data protection: both from Germany
When it comes to data protection, scrappbook and picdrop are close. Both are based in Germany and provide a data processing agreement. picdrop hosts in Germany and commits to not using your data for AI training. scrappbook hosts in the EU.
One difference concerns face recognition, which only scrappbook offers. Facial data is biometric data and requires explicit consent. If you switch the feature off for a gallery, scrappbook deletes the biometric data within 24 hours. Whichever provider you use: obtain your guests' consent beforehand.
