The Journey: How a Vision Became a Team
In on our previous post, “A wedding, a vision, a problem.” we shared the spark that ignited PictoMento. But a spark is not a fire. The journey from a beautiful idea to a living, breathing company is a story of connection, timing, and the magic that happens when the right people come together.
Picture this. It was October. I was sitting in my favourite café, Café MaBe, the familiar comfort of a coffee in my hand and surrounded by the delicious smells of homemade baking. There wasn’t a grand vision, just an excitement to apply what I’d learned so far and build something that photographers would love. I didn’t know what it would become, but I was energised by the possibilities.
The first chapter of our story was written in friendship. I reached out to a friend and former colleague to help with a small app for my own wedding photos—a private gallery I could share with loved ones. It was meant to be a simple personal project. At the time I had no idea then that it would lead to building a company. With the engine beginning to take shape, we knew we needed a soul. We needed a look and feel that photographers would fall in love with. Around that same time, another friend, an experienced marketeer with a good eye for clean aesthetics, was keen to put her creative mind to use. She jumped in and with a team effort we brought our visual identity to life, and the transformation was remarkable. Suddenly, we had a professional feel that gave us the confidence to approach photographers – a professional, polished aesthetic that would make incredible photographers like @Esmefilmandphotography feel right at home.
With a team beginning to form, our focus shifted to creating something truly special. We didn’t just want to build features; we wanted to craft an experience for our online gallery. We wanted to create a workflow so intuitive and joyful that photographers would love to show off their work on PictoMento. This phase was all about connection. We were incredibly fortunate to onboard a group of amazing photographers who believed in us and took the time to nurture the product with their feedback. (Special thanks to @Dino, @Esmefilmandphotography & @Robinotof). That was it. I could feel the momentum shift. I was still working full-time, but their belief in what we were doing fueled my evenings and weekends. A test run with my own wedding photos showed me it had potential.
As our vision grew, we knew we needed one more piece to complete the puzzle. Enter Daniel, my co-founder. He was the missing link, the steady hand and strategic mind that helped us channel our passion into a plan. With Daniel on board, our team felt whole.
Then came the day. The team of four—my cofounders and I—met outside the notary office. It was a crisp winter morning, and we were buzzing with energy. We signed the papers. We did it. We founded our company, Evolo Software GmbH, to be the home of our PictoMento product.
The journey from that café in October has been an incredible adventure. We’re a team united by a shared vision and passion, fueled by coffee and determination. We’ve worked hard to engineer PictoMento into a platform that is for photographers and that gives them a way to share their beautiful work while honouring the privacy of their clients’ memories.
And as we look ahead, I’m reminded that the best paths are often the ones you don’t see coming.
